In the 2000 election, Senator John Ashcroft ( now the present Attorney General) was up for re-election and his competitor was the Governor of Missouri, Mel Carnahan, whose term, due to term limits was due to end in 2001. Interestingly, Mr. Ashcroft himself had also served as Govenor of Missouri prior to becoming a Senator. Tragically, just shortly before the election, Govenor Carnahan died, along with his son and an aide, in a tragic plane crash, leaving the Missouri elections in a state similar to those in Minnesota this year due to Mr. Wellstone's unfortunate death. While this past year, the Democratic Party moved to nominate Walter Mondale in Minnesota, in 2000 in Missouri, the party instead elected to leave Mr. Carnahan's name on the ticket...and the acting Democratic Govenor Roger Wilson, announced that he would nominate Mr. Carnahan's widow, Jean Carnahan to fill his seat should he win post humously. While the long time wife of a career politician, Mrs. Carnahan had never run for, nor held office herself.

After serving for an appointed two year interim term, Mrs. Carnahan then had to face a re-election in the next general election. Going into the election, she was considered to be one of the more vulnerable candidates, because prior to being appointed she had never held elected office, and with two years of time passed, public sympathy alone would not be strong enough to re-elect her.

Early in the fall, Mrs. Carnahan was not doing well...and her transits showed this. Mrs. Carnahan had the first pass of a stressful and turbulent LOOPED transit from Saturn opposed to her Sun...in the Heliocentric dimension, she also had Saturn contra-latitude her Jupiter through to a point in September, and Saturn contra-latitude her Pluto through to a period in mid October...all the while Saturn in Declination hovered contra-parallel to her Mercury and her Mars. Our readers will recall that long ago, using George Soros as an example, we taught that any time we are having Bi-Level Saturn transits, it is a sign of a time of great stress and turbulence. For all of this though, she began to rally in the last few weeks and finished by coming within one percent of the vote to win the seat back.. Transiting Geocentric Saturn just .1 degrees from being exactly opposed to her Sun for a second time was a very strong indicator that Mrs. Carnahan would have a very difficult time being able to win on such a day...that second pass would peak just a day or so after the election, and remember, the closer the transit, the more powerful it is at any given time....but she did have the parallel of Jupiter to her Chiron, a Cinderella Transit, and in Helio Jupiter contra-latitude her Uranus, the Super Political Success Transit, as well as Uranus trine her Earth.

In the day just prior to and on the day of the election, Mrs. Carnahan also had a T-square which developed in Heliocentric Longitude. Transiting Mercury squared her Pluto and then opposed her Uranus, the two political planets. Remember, that many many people are 'deciding' which way they are going to vote in those last days prior to the election...this transit would have indicated that Mrs. Carnahan would not be likely, for a day or so, to communicate in a popular, powerful, persuasive manner...it would also indicate that any commercials run by her campaign would not send the right message, causing her instead to lose competitiveness and popularity rather than empowering her.

The key here though remains that LOOPED STRESSFUL AND TURBULENT TRANSIT FROM SATURN OPPOSED TO HER SUN. No one can perform at their very best at such a time.

In the 2000 election, Mr. Talent lost to the Democratic candidate for the Govenorship of Missouri by a small margin, so he too was a potent political force coming into the Senate race.

In Geocentric Longitude, Transiting Saturn and Transiting Uranus were both trine to Mr. Talent's Sun...which demonstrates another teaching of Magi Astrology. In our books and on this website, we have made it clear that ALL transits from Saturn are NOT GOOD....HOWEVER, THERE IS ONE EXCEPTION. Saturn, when it helps to form a GRAND TRINE, WHICH IS THE VERY BEST FORM OF SYMMETRICAL PLANETARY GEOMETRY is not harmful. We also noted, beginning with our first book Astrology Really Works, that the combination of Saturn and Uranus has special application in the field of politics, since it symbolizes the ability to 'control' 'masses'of people and to have 'dominant', 'dominating' 'popularity'.

In addition to this Grand Trine, consider too that Uranus trining Mr. Talent's Sun was making the third pass of a LOOPED TRANSIT.

In Heliocentric Dimension, Mr. Talent was also having the transit of Jupiter parallel his Uranus, Success with the Masses and in Politics...as well as the Cinderella transit of Neptune within .1 degrees of his Chiron and applying. Transiting Neptune in Helio Longitude had in the few months prior made the quincunx alignment to Mr. Talent's Venus as well. Mr. Talent also had the powerful transit of Uranus, the planet of Politics trining his Neptune, indicating that this could be a time when positive changes could occur which could help to secure his long term financial and emotional security.

A month later Mr. Talent would be having the very difficult alignment of Saturn contra-latitude his Jupiter peak...but the election occurred at the beginning of November, not December. Remember, the closer a transit is to being exact, the more powerful it is.

One can see that at the time of the election, Mrs. Carnahan was having a tougher time of it than Mr. Talent....knowing that Mrs. Carnahan was just days from the peak of a Looped Stressful and Turbulent Transit from Saturn tells us that she is likely to be the one on the short end of the stick. But this is a case where one might expect to see a bit more 'oomph' on Mr. Talent's side. Remember, the MOST CRUCIAL INDICATOR WITH REGARD TO WHETHER OR NOT ONE WILL WIN THE ELECTION IS THE NOMINATION DATE...the transits on the election day give us indications and signs as well, but the NOMINATION DATE is the primary indicator. The NOMINATION DATE NATALIZES A CHART...the election is merely a CONTEST ON A PARTICULAR DAY.

In Missouri, the Primaries were held on August 6, 2002...and the winners of those primaries were nominated at that time. If we look at Mr. Talent's transits at that time, the picture of his LINKAGES are similar...in fact, he retains almost every positive feature that we saw above...but there are also other significant positive LINKAGES as well.

In Declination, Mr. Talent was nominated with Jupiter and applying parallel to his Uranus ...the Super Fame/Super Political Success alignment. Just as at the time of the election, Mr. Talent also had Jupiter parallel to his Uranus in Heliocentric Dimension as well...so the NOMINATION CHART gave Mr. Talent TRANSDIMENSIONAL SUPER POLITICAL SUCCESS LINKAGES.

Further, in Helio Longitude, Mr. Talent's natal Venus Chiron quincunx may be his FOCUS ASPECT...and at the time of the Nomination, not only was it applying to his Chiron, as it was on election day, but to his Venus as well...and in Geo Longitude, Neptune was likewise applying to conjoin his Chiron as well...so, a TRANSDIMENSIONAL CINDERELLA LINKAGE, and a potential FOCUSED SUPER LINKAGE in Helio Longitude.

At the time of his Nomination, Jupiter in Geocentric Longitude was short of having begun to apply to his natal Uranus...but over the ensuing weeks it would, which would be a good 'sign' as he began the last leg of the race against Mrs. Carnahan, and would simply reitierate his Transdimensional Jupiter Uranus linkages.

Further, by being NOMINATED in August, Mr. Talent gained three other important linkages...in Declination, though separating , Pluto and Uranus were still parallel to his Chiron...and Mercury was contra-parallel to his Chiron as well. Remember, Pluto and Uranus are the POLITICAL PLANETS...and the LINKAGE of Pluto with Chiron is a CINDERELLA LINKAGE, AND A GOLDEN FINANCIAL LINKAGE. The Mercury LINKAGE to Chiron helps one to communicate in an extremely charismatic manner, and in a way which inspires trust...which would help both in giving speeches on the political stump, but also in the crafting of advertisments and in interviews.

The Nomination Chart combines with Mr. Talent's chart to create the same GRAND TRINE from Saturn and Uranus to Mr. Talent's Sun as was still about on election day...and Uranus at the time of NOMINATION was retrograde and applying to make the 2nd trine transit to Mr. Talent's Sun ( the third would occur just weeks after the election...so the entire time from Nomination through Election straddled two of these extremely powerful, positive transits. Remember, the first President Bush had Uranus aligned to his Sun during the time of his phenomenal popularity during and after the first Gulf War).
